CHARLES CHANG-LIMA Deconstructed Distressed Brocade Duster Coat, Circa 2000s NWT.
We are unpacking true fashion artistry with this rare, unworn duster coat from Charles Chang-Lima. Renowned for high concept designs and avant-garde textile treatments, Chang-Lima executed a masterclass in deconstruction with this statement coat and turned traditional tailoring inside-out—literally. Designed with the reverse face of a rich black and emerald-green brocade facing outward, the raw yarns have been intentionally distressed to create a tactile, shaggy texture, while the polished face of the brocade remains completely intact facing the interior.

The coat, crafted in a wool and cotton blend brocade, has a dramatic oversized shawl collar, an open front, and large patch pockets at the hips. There are functional drawstrings integrated into the back waist and cuffs, allowing the wearer to alternate between a relaxed duster and a cinched silhouette. This exceptional, unworn archival piece from this high-concept designer was created prior to the closure of his atelier in 2009.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE
New-with-tags garments from the short-lived Charles Chang-Lima label are extraordinarily scarce on the secondary market, making this an ideal acquisition for private collections or fashion archives.
